Back to School Bash with Donkey Kong!

This past weekend was our last weekend before school started back, and thought it would be fun to celebrate our last weekend of summer vacation with a fun party/movie night. My two oldest ( who just started 1st grade and kindergarten) helped me make some quick microwave popcorn and I handed out bad 80's accessories to make it a little more themed/fun for them, before hoping on the couch (and having to explain slap bracelets and fishnet gloves to them) we were ready for our fun movie night.  My 3 kiddos all get so excited anytime we have a family movie night so they were thrilled for this end of summer celebration.

My daughter in her 80's gear now if only he had a bad perm!

I was sent Donkey Kong Country  for us to watch and review so I thought this would be a perfect night to watch/review the movie!. I grew up playing Donkey Kong on the super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, and thought this would be a fun movie to bridge the gap between nostalgic kids stuff for my husband and me  and a fun movie for the munchkins. My son recently learned the phrase “it’s on like Donkey Kong” so He was very excited to see what Donkey Kong was!!

The movie uses CGI technology to bring the classic Donkey Kong characters to life on the big screen. DK, Diddy Kong, and even the Kremlins are all part of the 90 minute film.

I’ll be honest: I don’t exactly remember all of details about the Donkey Kong game as a kid, other than trying to jump over barrels and climb ladders and a lot of banana peels; So I wasn’t really sure what to expect from a 90 minute movie based on the game, other than lots of bananas and the kind of corny cartoon jokes that I love; But it was fantastic!

It was truly a great choice for our whole family Even my husband, who doesn’t really get into kiddie movies enjoyed this, and my 2 year old who never watches a tv show all the way through laugh and pretty much watched the whole movie! So our entire family Loved Donkey Kong Country!

I definetly  think this will become a regular movie night choice at our house!

BUY IT: On August 20, 2013, the hit CGI series, Donkey Kong Country, will be available on DVD for the first time ever.  Featuring four classic episodes and a run time of 90 minutes, the DVD will be available major U.S. retail stores for $9.99.

I was sent this product as a promotion/review opp, through mom central all thoughts and opinions are my own and I was not compensated for this review,
